Open Source Session – Placemaking in Public Transit

Angel L. Bond, Master’s candidate, Public Administration, attended the 21st Congress for the New Urbanism (CNU 21) annual event in Salt Lake City, UT, May 29 – June 1, 2013. The CNU promotes walkable and sustainable communities, transportation systems designed for multiple modes of transport, and multi-use developments that build stores and restaurants within walking distance from residential buildings. Members of CNU are from a wide range of career fields: architects, developers, planners, engineers, and government policy experts, to name a few. CNU was a powerful advocate in a recent regulation change to expand the number of condos eligable for Federal Housing Administration backed mortgages.

Dockdock Revisky, current UCCS MPA student (on far right in photo on right), is already coupling his newly learned public affairs theory and skills with his extraordinary passion to work for others. Dock, a U.S. Army two-time Iraqi war combat veteran, was selected by the veteran’s group: Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) to participate in Storm the Hill, March 18-24, 2013 in Washington D.C. About the experience Dock states: “Learning a fraction of how the political process really works was fascinating and inspiring.”
